Eventually, he had the psychological courage to come out to his family about his sexuality. In his book, Transparent, Don discussed how he was treated in his early days because of the homophobia and hopelessness he experienced because he didn't set out to face his mother with his sexual reality. Because of his keen interest in journalism, Don majored in Broadcast Journalism at Brooklyn College and then went to Louisiana State University to complete his studies. He was inspired to be a television presenter because of Max Robinson. In his book Transparent, Don announced that he is gay and talked about homophobia, colorism, and the sexual abuse he suffered when he was still young. In an interview, Don Lemon revealed that he was sexually abused when he was young and waited nearly thirty years before telling his mother about it. In 1976, when Don was ten, his mother married Don's stepfather. Don's mother is Katherine Clark, and he has two sisters named Leisa Lemon and Yma Lemon. Don attended Baker High School in East Baton Rouge Parish. Don Lemon was born on March 1, 1966, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
